Release Notes

Version 4.1.0 - Release Notes
  • Fixed: LogViewer ascx adapter with PageRecords redirection
  • Fixed: A regression with firewall request event steps in action providers
  • New: Firewall Critical Accounts protection condition tied to a dynamic DNN profile property
  • New: Action Provider leveraging Google Spreadsheet API and sample bot.
  • New: Firewall General Purpose Html Filter Rule.
  • New: Firewall Output Caching rule, with fine tuning.
  • New: Url Control adapter with image preview.
  • New: Option to share web clients, cookies for distinct requests, and to include a referer.

Version 4: New highly improved version with dynamic Control Adapters, Http Handlers, and Web services.

Alpha version is a preview and a call for contributors. Firewall, Handlers and Adapters could be useful to many DNN integrators in their current states, and there are many places where the current code base can be improved.

Alpha Highlights:
  • All Firewall rules, included since last version, are increasingly useful, when upgrading DNN on a regular basis isn't enough, or even more when it is not an option. Non intrusive drastic rules are the best way to protect an old DNN instance.
  • Control Adapters are also very useful to fix DNN issues without modifying the core code base, which integrators should know is a real drag when it later comes to upgrading.
    • Included is a ReCaptcha example, which adapts the DNN captcha into a Google Recaptcha equivalent, fixing the recent issue with bot registrations.
  • Http Handlers are the most generic way to handle Http Requests, and can service many kinds of needs.
    • Included is a complete functional WMS service made from a list of local KML files, leveraging the SharpMap GIS library suite, together with an autonomous test Fiddle based on GeoExt library.

Bots and Rest Services will be the main focus in the final release.

Next steps will include:
  • A revamp of dynamic web services engine, based on Web API
  • A rewrite of several bots:
    • Google has stopped the "Places" services. Search monitoring bot need a rewrite to a similar service or to broad search.
    • Bitcoin exchanges previously supported were closed. A new trading bot is in the working with Multi Crypto Currency exchanges support, complex compound strategies and commercial features.
    • Reddit bot is under way. It should support tip bot like features, and offer commands customization for user bots.
  • Documentation: This is going to be a long task, considering the amount of features to cover. Several videos are planned to get people started and show how to build existing samples from scratch.
